     William Wiswell was born on Tuesday, 6 March 1787 in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.5,6 William and Mercy Woodward, daughter of Deacon Jacob Woodward and Mercy Tatman, were married on Saturday, 7 March 1807.7,8,9,10,4 William died at age 65 on Friday, 31 December 1852 in McKean, Erie County, Pennsylvania.6

NARRATIVE:

     William Wiswell was also known as William Wiswall.5 He and Mercy Woodward lived McKean Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, for the rest of their lives.11 William Wiswell was christened on 31 August 1788 in Dedham, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.5 In 1791 William Wiswell may have been enumerated on the 1790 federal census in the household of John Wiswell in Marlborough Town, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.12 William Wiswell may have been enumerated on the 1800 federal census in the household of John Wiswall in Marlborough, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.13
     William may be the head of the household who was enumerated in Marlborough, in the federal census of 6 August 1810. Mercy Wiswell, (?) Wiswell and Asa S. Wiswell may also have lived there at the time of the enumeration.10 William and Mercy Woodward moved to in Washington Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in 1817.11 William and Mercy Woodward lived in Washington Township, between 1817 and 1824.11
     William may be the head of the household who was enumerated in Conneauttee Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in the federal census of 7 August 1820. Mercy Wiswell, (?) Wiswell, Asa S. Wiswell, William Wiswell Jr., (?) Wiswell, Lorenzo Wiswell and Samuel Wiswell may also have lived there at the time of the enumeration.9 William and Mercy Woodward moved to in McKean Township, in 1824.11 His real estate was valued at $400 in 1850.1 William was a farmer in 1850.1
     On 5 November 1850 William was enumerated as the head of the household in McKean, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in the federal census of 1 June 1850. Maria Wiswell, Henrietta Cook and George Wiswell also lived there at the time of the enumeration.1
