NARRATIVE:

At least one document exists which refers to him as Asa S. Wiswell.3,7 Although an 1880 census record for his son, William, suggests that he was born in Ireland, this is almost certainly incorrect.8 He may have been enumerated on the 1810 federal census in the household of William Wiswell in Marlborough, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.9 Asa S. Wiswell may have been enumerated on the 1820 federal census in the household of William Wiswell in Conneauttee Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania.10
On 5 November 1850 Asa was enumerated as the head of the household in McKean, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in the federal census of 1 June 1850. Asenath Wiswell, William Louis Wiswell, Calista M. Wiswell, Mercy L. Wiswell, Charlotte Wiswell, Selinda Wiswell and Asa V. Wiswell also lived there at the time of the enumeration. At the time of the census, he was a farmer whose real estate was valued at $800.3
On 3 August 1870 Asa was enumerated as the head of the household in Prairieville, Barry County, Michigan, in the federal census of 1 June 1870. Asenath Wiswell, Asa V. Wiswell, James M. Wiswell and Sylvia Wiswell also lived there at the time of the enumeration. He was still occupied as a farmer at the time of the census enumeration.4
Asa left no will to his estate.5 An inventory of his estate was taken about 2 November 1870. His estate was inventoried as follows: 45 acres of land valued at $1000; two horses; one "heffer"; "the old cow"; four hogs; five pigs; two calves; a lumber wagon; a "bob sleigh"; a plow; a "dragg"; a shovel "flow broke"; corn fodder; and corn in cribs.1 After his death an accounting of heirs was taken on 2 November 1870 in Barry County, Michigan. Asenath Wiswell, William Louis Wiswell, Lois Crandall, Calista M. Mix, Charlotte Strong, Selinda Jenkins, Asa V. Wiswell, James M. Wiswell and Sylvia Wiswell were listed as heirs to his estate.1
