KEY EVENTS:Johannes Kimmel was born on Wednesday, 31 October 1792 in Braunschweig Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.1 Johannes and Magdalene Faust, daughter of Peter Faust and Magdalene Berger, were married on Sunday, 13 April 1817.1,2 Johannes died at age 69 on Saturday, 28 December 1861.1,2
NARRATIVE:Johannes may have been born on Tuesday, 30 October 1792 near Orwigsburg, Berks County, Pennsylvania.2 Johannes was baptized on 17 November 1792 at the Zion "Red" Lutheran Church, between Deer Lake and Orwigsburg in Brunswick Township, Berks County (now Schuylkill County), Pennsylvania. Balthaser and Susana Bock stood as godparents. It should also be noted that a genealogy of the Hans Conrad Kimmel family put the baptism date 3 days earlier.2,3 Johannes was confirmed in May 1807 at Zion "Red" Lutheran Church, between Deer Lake and Orwigsburg in Brunswick Township.2 He and Magdalene Faust had probably nine children, Catherine, born 12 April 1818; Maria, born 3 July 1820; Magdalene, born 19 Jan 1822; Johannes, born 12 September 1824; Christine, born 26 January 1827; Susanna, date of birth unknown; Sara, born 19 July 1832; George, born 2 October 1834; and Louis, born 20 August 1837.
On 7 June 1860 Johannes was enumerated as the head of the household in Barry Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, in the federal census of 1 June 1860. His wife, Magdalene, also lived there at the time of the enumeration. At the time of the census, Johannes was a farmer who had apparently quite large holdings, as the value of his real estate was estimated as $23,100. The value of his personal estate was said to be $800. In addition to his wife, Hetty Scholler, a 13-year old girl, lived with him at the time. Given her age, it is possible that she is a granddaughter. In the same dwelling, also resided his son, Lewis, and his family.4
