NARRATIVE:

Magdalene Kimmel and Benjamin Klinger probably had at least three known children, Joel, born 13 March 1852; Lewis; and Mary, who may have been adopted. On 22 August 1850 Magdalene appeared on the 1850 federal census in the household of her husband, Benjamin Klinger, in Barry Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.3 Magdalene and Benjamin Klinger lived in Berrien County, Michigan, between 1865 and 1878.1 On 19 July 1870 Magdalene appeared on the 1870 federal census in the household of her husband, Benjamin Klinger, in Shamokin Borough, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.4 Magdalene and Benjamin Klinger lived in Allegan County, Michigan, between 1878 and 1899.1 On 1 June 1880 Magdalene appeared on the 1880 federal census in the household of her son, Joel Klinger, in Lake Township, Berrien County, Michigan.5 On 31 May 1897, Benjamin Klinger, along with Magdalene, sold 40 acres of land in Lee Township, Allegan County, Michigan. Benjamin and the others had executed a mortgage on the property in 1889, but then apparently were unable to keep up with the payments. The property was seized and sold by Circuit Court Commissioner at public auction to James W. Osborn of Kalamazoo for the sum of $480.6
